The Water Systems Operator Level 1 is responsible for water safety and quality in the World Waterpark and Marine Life by assisting with monitoring chemical levels and supporting the filtration systems and chlorine gas systems. The Water Systems Operator Level 1 will complete the Marine Life, World Waterpark, DSA, and RC Boats Training Programs while in this role.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Knowing, understanding, and following the Alberta Pool Standards, OH&S Policies and Procedures, Codes of Practice & Safe Work Practices.
- Maintaining the treatment systems and operating the filtering and chemical treatment process in a proactive manner to ensure that proper chemical levels are always within parameters of the Alberta Pool Standards.
- Performing all required checks on all pool equipment such as flow meters, filter beds, systems, and pumps to ensure that all equipment is operating within Alberta Pool Standards.
- Cleaning pump strainers, performing backwashes on all systems, degreasing and pressure washing filters, as well as changing filter media as necessary.
- Helping to ensure the safe delivery of chlorine gas to the required systems and changing chlorine tonner and cylinders in a proactive fashion.
- Assisting with inventory of pool chemicals, supplies, and equipment and ensuring that supply orders are properly fulfilled.
- Arranging servicing, repairs & replacement for equipment and assisting skilled tradespersons with the installation and repair of machinery. Complete basic troubleshooting as required.
- Performing multiple daily routine assessment rounds to check status of chemistry, water levels, and chemical tank levels and documenting such rounds.
- Ensuring all housekeeping is completed daily including cleaning of the filter rooms, pump rooms, chlorine rooms and shops & that cleaning supplies are stocked.
- Maintaining accurate, fully detailed records on all tasks and occurrences throughout the workday.
- Fostering a positive and helpful attitude with co-workers, other departments, and outside contractors.
- Responding to all incoming inquiries via phone and email.
- Reviewing all Safe Work Practices & Job Hazard Assessments annually.
- Maintaining impeccable communication with other Water Systems Operators, Supervisors & other departments in all aspects of daily operation.
Desired Qualifications:
- Pool Operator level (1) or level (2) certification is an asset, but not required.
- A minimum of one (1) to two (2) years’ experience in the aquatics profession or industry.
- Candidates that possess certifications in workplace hazardous materials information systems (WHMIS), Respiratory Fit Testing, Confined Space Management, SCBA & SCBA Fit Testing, Forklift, Fall Protection, Lockout/Tagout or any related courses in safety practices are a definite asset.
- Applicants must be comfortable working in close proximity to animals.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work independently and as a part of a team.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, ability to work at heights, strong attention to detail and great problem-solving skills.
Terms of Employment:
- This is a full-time position which requires a flexible work schedule including weekends and holidays. On-call as required.
- Must be able to pass a basic security clearance.
