The Sergeant is responsible for the direction and supervision of Security Agents and K9 Agents during his/her shift.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Lead, coach and supervise Security Agents under his/her span of control as they adhere to West Edmonton Mall Security department policies and procedures and carry out their duties and responsibilities;
  • Monitor all calls for service and activities transmitted over the security radio network and:
    • Ensure the appropriate numbers of Agents and/or other resources are dispatched to a scene to efficiently address the evident or developing circumstances occurring in a timely manner; and
    • Ensure the appropriate numbers of Agents and/or other resources are dispatched to any call for service in order to ensure the safety of those responding.
  • Upon arrival, assess the scene and delegate the actions of his/her subordinates in order to conclude the investigation and meet department and organizational expectations;
  • Ensure all his/her investigative reports and administrative paperwork are completed, meet department standards, and are submitted according to time constraints identified in Security policy and procedure;
  • Create and maintain a record of performance for each of his subordinates in order to address performance management objectives and progressive discipline actions;
  • Review and approve or reject completed investigative reports from those under his/her span of control and:
    • Ensure that reports meet department standards;
    • Ensure that all reports are submitted according to time constraints identified in Security policy and procedure; and
    • Monitor the information contained within in order to identify and address repeat calls for service.
  • Schedule and deploy the appropriate number of Security Agents in order to address historical and identified staffing needs using corporate systems;
  • Assist the Operations Staff Sergeant in maintaining the authorized number of Security agents under his/her span of control;
  • Ensure the approved crime prevention initiatives are staffed and undertaken in order to meet department and organizational expectations;
  • Foster a cohesive partnership and working relationship with law enforcement agencies;
  • Perform the duties of a Security Agent; and
  • Other duties as required.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Intermediate First Aid and CPR-C
  • At least 18 years of age
  • A valid class 5 driver’s license
  • Must pass security clearance and background check
  • Experience in leadership and coaching
  • Excellent communication skills that include speaking, writing, reading, and comprehension of the English language
  • Be of good character and act in a lawful and ethical manner
  • Initiative and the ability to work well independently
  • Education or training in leadership and/or coaching
  • Previous supervisory experience
  • Competency in Microsoft office including Excel, Word, Outlook, SharePoint and PowerPoint
Terms of Employment:
  • This is a full-time position that requires flexible availability. Mandatory shift work including nights, weekends, and holidays.
