The Operations Staff Sergeant is responsible for conducting administrative and command duties associated to the Security patrol staff and operations of the department and acting in a leadership and mentorship role within the Security department of West Edmonton Mall.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Monitoring and adjusting, as necessary, staffing levels and deployment for patrol staff day to day operations and special event operations through schedule development and implementation.
  • Ensuring that all administrative and operational practices of patrol personnel meet the criteria outlined in all applicable policies and procedures, are consistently applied within all squads and meet the goals and objectives of West Edmonton Mall and the Security department.
  • Actively supervising and providing guidance and coaching and mentorship to the Sergeants and Agents of the Security department and acting as a point of contact for any Security staff concerns or dispute resolutions under the direction of the Operations Manager and Director of Security.
  • Conducting and supervising the field Security Agent training.
  • Supervising and signing off on all operations daily and weekly checklists.
  • Conducting performance management of Sergeants and Security Agents.
  • Being an active part of the recruitment process for the Sergeants, Lead Security Agent, and Security Agent roles for the department including such tasks as the application review process, reference and background checks, competency testing, and selection interviews.
  • Identifying equipment requirements and ensuring adequate stocks are maintained to deploy fully equipped Security Agents.
  • Working closely with the Operations Manager and Director of Security on various tasks, assignments, and projects.
  • Performing the uniformed duties of a Security Squad Sergeant when required.
  • Acting as a Bylaw Administrator with duties and responsibilities pertaining to the City of Edmonton bylaw enforcement.
  • Coordinating and scheduling any course re-certifications and/or outsourced training courses for all Security department team members
  • Acting as a trainer when needed for in-house training.
  • Other duties as required.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Must possess either a law enforcement/security diploma, a criminology degree, previous police experience or five (5) years related security experience.
  • Previous supervisory experience and the proven ability to act as a mentor in the workplace.
  • Must have a current Security Services and Investigation Act (SSIA) License. 
  • Certified in CPR and First Aid, has a valid class 5 driver’s license and a valid ProServe certification.
  • Formal coaching and leadership training are assets.
  • Must be of good character and be one who acts in a lawful and ethical manner.
  • Must be able to physically preform the duties of a Security Squad Sergeant.
  • Must have excellent communication skills that include; speaking, writing, reading and comprehension of the English language.
Terms of Employment:
  • This is a full-time position that requires flexible availability.
  • This position qualifies for our 4-day workweek program.
  • Must be able to pass a basic security clearance.
