The Lead Structural Assistant is responsible for preforming the daily tasks and responsibilities of a Structural Assistant within West Edmonton Mall’s World Waterpark Attraction including slide checks, repairs, and general maintenance related duties and activities for the park, along with completing additional administrative responsibilities associated with the success of the Waterpark structural repair team.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Responsible for daily water slide and safety checks and inspections to ensure the slides are in proper order and inspecting for any areas for enhancement or improvement.
- Coordinating department related inventories, parts ordering, invoicing and receiving processes for all materials required for the slide maintenance and structural repair team of the World Waterpark.
- Creating and submitting the slide inspection, maintenance, and related staff schedules to properly meet the needs of the slide inspection and repair department requirements for review and approval from the Parks Maintenance Assistant Manager, Water and Attractions.
- General painting duties, minor concrete maintenance repairs and light adhesive work.
- Assisting with structural fabrication and installation of steel throughout World Waterpark
- Structural corrosion maintenance and repairs within the facility.
- Complete slide repairs through fiberglass repair, sanding, applying gel coats and slide seam caulking.
- Assisting with the maintenance of steel structures and supports through sanding, use of primer and top gel coats.
- Preforming maintenance on all water slides within the World Waterpark by cleaning and waxing of slides.
- Acting as a spotter for Water Operations personnel when required.
- General inventory management and reporting to the Structural Supervisor.
- Department and inter-departmental communication via phone and email.
- Act as the structural liaison with 3rd party contractors when required.
- Safe operation of Forklift and MEWP’s throughout World Waterpark moving various materials.
- Other responsibilities as required.
Desired Qualifications:
- A minimum of two (2) to five (5) years’ experience assisting with slide inspection, fiberglass repair or a related trade based role.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently and as a part of a team with the willingness to learn.
- Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office programs with the ability to create schedules and work plans.
- Previous experience with inventory control and/or purchasing processes is an asset.
- Requires First Aid and SCBA certification.
- A dedication and knowledge of health and safety measures needed to perform each task.
- Experience and knowledge of water slides, fiberglass assembly and polyester resin/hand laminating.
- Must be able to work at heights, have completed or be willing to attend fall protection and MEWP training and able to lift and carry up to 23 kgs (50lbs).
- Requires strong attention to detail and great problem-solving skills.
- Previous experience with painting is an asset.
Terms of Employment:
- This is a full-time position that requires a variety of different shifts, including days, evening and weekend.
- Ability to work in a hot and humid environment and in close proximity to water and chlorine.
- Must be able to pass a basic security clearance.
