The K-9 Security Handler will be responsible for the on-going care, handling, utilization, and development of the working dog(s) of Indicate K9 Explosive Detection & Security Services.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Patrolling all areas of West Edmonton Mall and other contracted locations as required with the service dog to detect and screen for suspicious and unauthorized materials.
  • Leading the service dog to preform appropriate searches on suspicious materials or areas including but not limited to: vehicles, packages, garbage cans, lockers, etc.
  • Performing public relations duties, appearances, and interviews as per set response protocols.
  • Documenting all training, development and activities in the handler log book and required reports.
  • Providing appropriate housing for the service dog during off hours and ensuring the service dog has appropriate daily care, on-going training and development, exercise, nutrition, attention, and veterinary attention as required.
  • Constantly monitoring facilities, including attending special events, for all types of hazards and/or potentially dangerous situations and follow policies, procedures and protocols that exist to address the hazards or dangerous situation.
  • Investigating all calls for service from guests, tenants, employees or interested stakeholders by conducting criminal and non-criminal investigations.
  • Engaging guests, tenants and employees as a customer service agent and provide the appropriate level of service that the circumstances dictate.
  • Performing other security agent duties as required.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Must be able to house assigned dog at own home during non-working hours.
  • Experience in a role relating to security, K-9 handling, search and rescue service or a related role.
  • Completion or willingness to attend required animal training and development courses, seminars and programs and must enjoy a position that keeps you on the move and be physically fit.
  • Post-secondary education in policing and security or formal training in security measures or practices are definite assets to the position.
  • Previous committed working experience in a position with responsibility and an emphasis on teamwork.
  • Must be in possession of a Security license in compliance with the (SSIA), hold a valid class 5 driver’s license and be certified in first aid and CPR or be willing to obtain required certification.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and must be able to complete a position-related written exam.
Terms of Employment:
  • This is a full-time position that requires flexible availability including rotating shifts Monday through Sunday.
  • Must be able to pass a basic security clearance.
  • Must be willing to attend multiple weeks of training with a travel requirement.
  • Must hold a valid Passport for training within the USA.
