The Business Data Analyst will work as part of the West Edmonton Mall Parks and Attractions team and work on a wide range of analytics-based challenges and data analysis initiatives for various West Edmonton Mall business areas. This will include utilizing numerous disciplines from data science and data analytics, including descriptive analytics, visualization, data modeling and database design, as well as supervised and unsupervised learning.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Researching and implementing analytics-based solutions to business problems in an efficient manner. This will include data pertaining to website usage, ticket bookings, and more across the organization.
  • Working independently, using the appropriate mix of analytics tools and techniques, including Power BI, on a wide range of data applications, including, but not limited to:
    • Cleaning, validating, modeling, and transforming data.
    • Creating and maintaining descriptive reports, visualizations, and ad-hoc analysis.
    • Developing supervised and unsupervised learning models.
    • Statistical testing and advanced topics.
  • Collaborating with business users to understand company needs and devise data-driven solutions and efficiencies.
  • Communicating results and recommendations clearly and concisely to business partners and senior management in a timely fashion, including regular presentations to various levels of the organization, including senior leadership.
  • Additional duties as required.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Undergraduate degree in Business Analytics, Data Science, or related field is an asset.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience with and demonstrable knowledge of BI software such as Power BI (preferred) or Tableau.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience with and demonstrable knowledge of a SQL-based language, such as Microsoft T-SQL (preferred), MySQL, etc.
  • Familiarity with and demonstrable knowledge of data analytics programming languages such as R or Python.
  • Ability to understand various data structures and common methods in data transformation.
  • Experience with statistical techniques and concepts, such as distributions, statistical testing, regression, etc.
  • Understanding of machine learning techniques and algorithms, such as k-NN, SVM, Ensemble Modeling, etc.
  • Capacity to work in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment and the ability to multi-task on a regular basis.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
Terms of Employment:
  • This is a full-time position that is required to work in-office, Monday through Friday.
  • This position qualifies for our 4-day workweek program.
  • This is a salaried position that will depend on experience and qualifications.
  • Must be able to pass a basic security clearance.
