The Ice Palace Arena Attendant ensures that guests have a fun and enjoyable skating experience while always maintaining their safety and security. They provide exemplary customer service to all ice users, including those attending public skate sessions, hockey bookings, private ice rentals, and decked events. Attendants operate and maintain the Zamboni Model 450, Power and Hand Edgers, skate sharpener, and a variety of janitorial equipment. This role requires keen attention to detail, ensuring the ice surface, facility, and guest experience are of the highest standard.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Providing guests with detailed instructions on the safe use of the Ice Palace rink.
- Retrieving, installing, and tearing down special decking for events.
- Ensuring proper skate and helmet rentals are processed, sanitized, and returned at the end of use.
- Ensuring all documentation is correctly filled out and processed.
- Accurately processing admission transactions using cash, credit card, or debit.
- Handling stressful guest situations calmly and efficiently.
- Utilizing strong customer service skills while strictly adhering to all safety regulations.
- Operating the Zamboni, Power & Hand Edgers, skate sharpener, and other equipment, ensuring the ice is maintained and safe for use.
- Conducting dressing room and facility inspections to ensure high standards are met for user groups.
- Performing various janitorial duties such as glass cleaning, sweeping, mopping, etc., to maintain cleanliness throughout the facility.
- Other responsibilities as required.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience working in an Ice Arena or related recreation facility is an asset.
- Must be comfortable operating a Zamboni; a valid Class 5 driver’s license is desired but not required. Completion of Arena Operator Level 1 is an asset.
- Experience operating a forklift and the ability to lift/carry up to or over 50 lbs.
- Previous customer service experience, with strong conflict resolution skills and the ability to stay calm in stressful situations while fostering positive interactions with the public.
- Must possess or be willing to obtain WHMIS and First Aid/CPR certification.
Terms of Employment:
- This is a part-time position that requires flexible availability Monday through Sunday, days, evenings, overnight and weekends.
- Must be able to pass a basic security clearance.
