The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day supervision of the maintenance team, ensuring all jobs are prioritized and completed in a timely matter, and any jobs that are not completed are tracked and updated. This role is also responsible for ensuring that adequate training, tools, and materials are available for the team to complete the job.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Ensuring that all maintenance requests are responded to in a timely manner and escalating issues to their supervisor when needed.
  • Ensuring that the CMMS is being updated and all jobs have an associated work order. Prioritizing and assigning work to the maintenance team.
  • Assisting the Chief Engineer to create a preventative/predictive maintenance schedule to include equipment inspections, room inspections and capital projects.
  • Checking the work completed by the maintenance team is completed correctly and as instructed.
  • Ensuring that daily checks are completed and recorded and following up on any issues resulting from the daily checks.
  • Conducting inventory checks, ensuring that parts are readily available and purchasing new stock as needed.
  • Arranging or conducting investigations and inspections when needed.
  • Assisting the maintenance team with any work orders that they may have difficulty completing. Offering advice and assistance to enable progression of the maintenance team.
  • Prioritizing service requests, scheduling and monitoring the service performed to ensure customer satisfaction, safety and convenience.
  • Tending to issues raised by the Health & Safety Committee collaboratively with the Chief Engineer.
  • Assisting with the recruitment and hiring of engineering/maintenance associates. Completing initial onboarding and training including complete building and systems familiarization and emergency incident training.
  • Training, prioritizing, planning, scheduling, delegating, and coaching the engineering department staff to oversee the maintenance, monitoring, and testing of the hotel’s emergency and security systems, features like Fire Alarm, sprinkler system, shut off valves etc.
  • Training engineering department staff on correct maintenance procedures and using and updating the CMMS.
  • In conjunction with the Chief Engineer, conducting people management tasks including, but not limited to, payroll, associate action forms, approving / rejecting vacation requests, etc.
  • Effectively communicate with all departments, specifically Housekeeping and Front Office.
  • Providing coverage in the absence of the Chief Engineer.
  • Other duties as required.
Desired Qualifications:
  • At least 5 years’ experience working in a general maintenance role in a hotel or similar environment, with at least 3 years in a Supervisory position, preferably in a hotel or similar environment.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with an understanding of systems and problem solving.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently or in a team environment.
  • Ability to prioritize and work within constraints while delivering superior service to all internal and external stakeholders.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude with an understanding of systems and problem solving.
  • 5th class power engineer (4th class and above an advantage).
  • WHMIS certification or willingness to attend required training.
  • Knowledge of all tools, equipment, and processes needed to perform work.
  • Previous experience of working with a CMMS and a good understanding of Microsoft office products.
  • Good understanding of purchase order and invoicing software.
  • Follows established Occupational Health & Safety procedures and policies when completing tasks.
  • Reports all health, safety, and security problems, and ensures all tools are kept in good working order and stored properly.
  • Performing frequent standing, bending, twisting, crawling, kneeling, squatting, climbing, reaching, grasping and heavy lifting, with the ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs., as well as the ability to work at heights when required.
Terms of Employment:
  • This is a full-time position that is required to work a shift schedule including mornings, days, evenings, weekends, holidays, and emergency call outs when required.
  • This is a salaried position that will depend on experience and qualifications.
  • Must be able to pass a basic security clearance.
